Continuing to make steady progress towards “Go Live” on March 24th, Telnic has launched their WHOIS service for .TEL domains. See an example of a .TEL WhoIs entry below.
The .TEL WHOIS Lookup is presently available off of Telnic’s website, and that of other official .TEL registrars. A .TEL WhoIs entry varies slightly from other TLD’s and ccTLD’s in the following addition at the end:
By executing this query, in any manner whatsoever, you agree to abide by these terms.
Contact information: Disclosure of contact data is restricted because of UK and EU Data Protection legislation. The contact details for this contact ID may be available by looking up a domain object in the WHOIS system. The information can also be obtained through the Telnic Special Access Service. Visit http://www.sas.nic.tel for more details.
Visit Telnic’s site for more information about .TEL Privacy and how private data is encrypted and stored inside to NAPTR records of type “x-crypto”. A PDF of Telnic’s WhoIs Policy can be found here.

Some .tel domains are showing as unavailable yet there is no info on them in the whois. What’s going on there?
It appears that Telnic has locked some .TEL names that are still going through the Sunrise approval process. These say “pending create”. Others probably have Privacy settings applied, so you’ll only see the registrant name. Also, I have seen the WHOIS not resolve a couple times, maybe you just caught it when it was spotty?
I have ordered my .tel domain one week ago, and still have PendingCreate, but they charge the not working time period! I wrote them to cancel my .tel now and give me my money back – what the hell should I do with a payed and not working service after 1 week?
Hmm. This is not the first time I’ve heard this complaint. PrendingCreate means your name hasn’t been validated. Here’s what you can do to check and see if things are on track:
1) Check the WHOIS record to see if the 5 nameservers have been set
2) Make sure your Telhosting account is setup. Login.
3) Once in you are in your Telhosting account, check to see if your NAPTA record exists.
If all the above is in working order, your t.TEL should be working with aprox. 8 hours.
If you have trouble with these instructions, or you can’t validate any of the above, get on the horn with your .TEL registrar immediately and demand some answers. Good luck.
